The weather had been severe. The heavy rain had just stopped, but oddly, the smell of wet soil still lingered in the air.
Chayanagar Railway Station was completely silent. Even from afar, the buzzing of insects could be heard clearly. The last train had left long ago, probably around 10 p.m. It was around 11:50 p.m., or something close to it.
Kheya was alone.
Suddenly, a rain-soaked dog walked past her, its wet fur brushing against her body.
“Woof! Woof!”
Kheya froze for a moment.
She kept waiting. Anyone looking at her from a distance would have thought that she had been waiting there for a thousand years.
But for what? Or for whom?
Well, who knows…
Suddenly, two men appeared from the other side of the station. They were clearly drunk. At first, they walked deliberately slowly. Kheya noticed them and began to walk away.
The two men suddenly increased their pace, moving towards her as fast as horses. Kheya quickly understood their ill intentions.
She walked faster to avoid them, heading towards the more isolated side of the station. Soon, she started running.
Still she could hear their footsteps getting closer and closer. The strong smell of cheap alcohol filled the air.
Then, the rain started falling again.
After running for a while, Kheya suddenly stopped.
She began laughing loudly. The sound of her laughter mixed with the rain, creating something horrifying.
She slowly turned around and looked at the two men.
Then, she pulled out a sharp knife.
Still laughing, she attacked both men while repeatedly whispering, “Justice is served. Justice is served.”
As a black belt in karate, Kheya was able to overpower the two men easily, especially since they were heavily drunk.
Afterward, she dragged their bodies onto the railway tracks so that it would look like an accident.
She arrived home around 5 a.m. Since she was an orphan, there was no one to question her.
Inside her room, one entire wall was covered with the names of all 450 railway stations in Bangladesh.
The name “Chayanagar Railway Station” had been crossed out.
There were still 144 stations left to go.
